A recent experience reminded me that not everyone is truly replaceable and reinforced the critical need for proactive planning when key talent leaves. I joined a company right after a key leader’s departure, and the owners hadn’t realized the full extent of that person’s influence—both in their contributions and in the negative impact they had on the team. Their exit left a leadership and cultural void, making my transition more challenging and delaying progress.
